If
you believe everything you hear then you could be forgiven for thinking
Liverpool fans won't be supporting England at this summer's World Cup.

Indeed, Reds supporters are fiercely proud of their team's history
and it is a common feeling that when it comes to the country's fortunes
on the international scene, Merseysiders go by the motto, 'We're not
English, we're Scouse.'
But is that really true?
With the club's talisman, Steven Gerrard, the man charged with
skippering his country to World Cup glory in South Africa, are Kopites
fully behind the Three Lions in their bid to bring the gleaming trophy
home for the first time since 1966?
To find out just how much support Fabio Capello's men have within the
city, we took to the streets of Liverpool to gauge the red level of
patriotism. Click on the image below to watch this

find out how many Reds will be flying the flag for England over the
next few weeks.

so far.I'm scouse, English and proud. Hope my team does well. C'mon England.
Carlfitz07I am proud to be Scouse, proud to be English, and the idea I would
have to choose between them is a non-starter. It might be a generational
thing, perhaps if I had not seen us lift the Jules Rimet trophy in
1966, I might not have the same affection for my national team. But,
once you've experienced the euphoria of being the best footballing
nation in the world, it never leaves you. And that's a feeling I would
wish on every English kid today.
KopGirl1971I love football and happily watch 2 local teams scrap out a horrible
0-0, i will also watch as many games during the World Cup as the Mrs
will allow. When it comes to my country being involved though there is
no question, I am a patriotic England fan.
Paolo No, its all a myth. Gerrard's road got voted most patriotic in the
country the other day. For sure we're not bothered about friendlies and
qualifiers generally but when the big tournaments come around Liverpool
backs England. Won't see more St Georges flags anywhere in England than
Liverpool, they're everywhere.
GolaGerrard being England captain has made me patriotic this time around,
I'm not usually, but when they have a Liverpool player as captain then
you have to hope we do well else that said player will get a lot of
stick. Imagine Stevie going up with the armband and lifting the World
Cup. He'd be donned a hero.
Em-InLeamMy user name only reflects approximately where I live. I am a born
and bred Scouser. I don't support England or any other nation come to
that. I've always felt its a Southern team at heart and as I shout abuse
at most of the players in the team when they play against my true love,
I can't see how I can now shout "well done Ashley", "Bravo Terry" and
"brilliant Wayne". It's not going to happen, but I wont boo them either.
Which would give you the most pleasure - LFC winning any game or
Ingerland winning the World Cup? Answer Liverpool winning any game. But I
am proud to be a Brit.
EdinburgherLverpool 1st, England 2nd. I wouldn't say we were unpatriotic in
general but Liverpool is more important than England. It's the other way
round for most of the country I'd suggest ie England 1st club 2nd. I
get the feeling though with our current situation coupled with Stevie
now England captain, scousers have become a little more English.
GiveNgogI support Liverpool Football Club and although I don't hate England I
can't pretend to care that much about them. If they win then fine but
I'm more interested in getting our players back in one piece than
winning the World Cup. And while I'd like Liverpool players to do well
that refers to all Liverpool players from various countries. What gets
on my nerves is people using words like patriotic. I'm Scouse and have a
British passport. Ingerland isn't mentioned anywhere and I relate to my
Scouseness, not to the gingoistic nationalists that follow ingerland.
BigRedOneI want England to win the World Cup, but I won't be at all upset if
we don't. Never been passionate about the England side, to be honest
they bore me to tears. I would much rather Liverpool win any trophy.
DominoI could quite easily live without England. The only reason I watch
the internationals is to support the Liverpool players playing in them. I
don't think fans mind you supporting England as long as you put
Liverpool 1st.
